On Your Side (A Rocket to the Moon) ♥

I just got the new A Rocket to the Moon album, On Your Side. I have been listening to them for about two years now. This album overall had less of an electric feel than the rest of their songs. It focused on more of a realistic feel, than computer tuning. It's a very happy, sweet album that has a summery feeling that I find hard to explain. Here's a breakdown of the album:

Annabelle: It's a very catchy song about a girl who's pretty, but he's pretty sure he's over her. She's stuck up and he can't deal with it anymore, so he's leaving her. She goes around saying he ruined his life and he doesn't care what she says because he knows she's just trying to save her image.

Mr. Right: I was shocked at how much the guitar popped through. Usually their music has been messed with so much, that you can't really here everything. (I personally like that kind of style of music. I find it to be very nice sounding. I know nice is such a BLURG type of description, but you know.) This is my favorite song on the whole album. The music video is very sweet and cute. Basically the song is about a girl who's dating a really rich guy and isn't happy. Meanwhile, her best friend is dating someone poor and is incredibly happy. So A Rocket To The Moon is basically saying you don't need to be rich to be happy and so on.

She's Killing Me: It's a very funny song. He does everything to piss this girl off and talks about how annoying she is,  but he loves her anyways. I really like the chorus, it's very catchy.

On a Lonely Night: The beginning of this song reminds me a lot of Mr. Right. It has this summery feeling that I can't really explain. This song has a certain Taylor Swift feeling to it. This song has a female backing voice that highlights Nick's, the lead singer's, voice.

Dakota: This song really reminds me of someone, but I can't quite remember who it is. It's killing me not to know. It's a great song that shows all the feelings you have at the beginning of a relationship. I felt that this song should've had a guitar solo for some reason.

Life of the Party: I feel like this song is good, but it has a So What (P!nk) kind of flair. It does sound different from the other songs though. The guitar sounds more rustic in this song than it usually does. It's a good song to listen to if someone breaks up with you. Hahaha.

Like We Used To: This song is an acoustic song that reminds me a lot of Dear Juliet (Chase Coy) in the beginning. Then it goes back to the A Rocket to the Moon sweet, sappy lyrics that make me smile. You can tell that it's about his ex-girlfriend who he can't quite get over. I actually really like this song. Definitely on my top 3 for this album.

Where Did You Go?: Yay! This song goes back to A Rocket to the Moon's original electric style! It isn't as electric as the older songs like Baby, We're Invincible, I'll be Your Sunset, or Away Away. It's a mixture of their older electric style and their newer acoustic/indie kind of feel.

Sometimes: This song sounds kind of mainstream. Not super mainstream, but it has some very mainstream material. It reminds me of Fall Out Boy for some reason. Maybe that's where the mainstream flair comes from.

Baby Blue Eyes: This song seems like it belongs to a male version of Taylor Swift. The reference to blue eyes, the talk about dances, and the country feel, all scream Taylor Swift! I find the song to be very sweet and the girl who this song is about should feel extremely lucky. (I don't get what's so attractive about blue eyes. I personally find grey and green eyes to be the nicest....)

Give a Damn: Sum 41, Queen, and Blink 182 all must have been inspiration for the beginning of this song. Some people get to talk to the people they're in love with, some don't. In this case, he doesn't get to talk to her. Hahaha. The part where it's like "But she doesn't know who I am" reminds me of the "They call her love" part in She is Love by Parachute.

On Your Side: Mr. Right sounds a lot like this one. The guitar solo reminds me of a song. I just can't remember it for some reason. When I remember it, I'll edit this post.

Overall I find this album to be light and somthing easy to listen to. Not too hardcore, like screamo. I don't think this album will be their breakout album that will make them mainstream and I'm kind of thankful for that. Mainstream-ness kills artist's original thoughts and ideas. The songs on this album feel like they're close to the artist's heart and haven't been edited so much that they have no real feeling. This album is really different from the rest of A Rocket to the Moon's songs and I think they're old work is better. I'm still a fan though. Without all the computer tuning, the music sounds more professional, so maybe it's a good thing that they changed.
